Capital Fringe is looking looking for energetic, engaging and proactive people with positive attitudes that want to support art and artists to work with us on the 12th Annual Capital Fringe Festival, July 6 to 23 and the extension week 25 to 31.

FRINGE FESTIVAL PRODUCTION TEAM

FESTIVAL PRODUCTION MANAGER

Oversees production activities specific to the creation and operation of festival venues and site infrastructure for the annual presentation of the Capital Fringe Festival. This position will manage scheduling and the financial resources specific to production activities. The Production Manager will also assist in acquiring and maintaining all resources necessary for each position within the production team to fulfill their respective duties and responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the staffing and operations of production activities including construction, installation, running and strike of all site and venue infrastructure and equipment necessary for the efficient operation of performance and public spaces; i.e., lighting and power distribution, sound reinforcement, staging, seating and masking systems as required by the Festival.
  • Liaising with all Fringe departments to establish technical requirements for the Festival.
  • Overseeing and executing all production staffing.
  • Creating budgets and tracking expenses relevant to production activities.
  • Negotiating and overseeing service contracts relevant to production activities.
  • Managing production schedules including: Master schedule for all production activities pre and post Festival. Advising the Program Manager with Festival program scheduling.
  • Scheduling technical rehearsals for all Fringe Run Venue Artists.
  • Scheduling all technician calls.

General

Time Commitment

July 6 to 23 with the extension week the 25 to 31. Production Manager starts part-time in April and full time May through the first week of August.

Compensation

AUDIO-PROJECTIONS COORDINATOR

The Audio-Projection Coordinator assists the Production Manager on all aspects of sound and video/projection and the coordination of technical elements as they relate to Audio and projections/video of the Capital Fringe Festival. The position includes supervision of crew, installing equipment such as microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards for theatre and live music. This position reports to the Production Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for management of audio-visual equipment, and relevant venue operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve live event issues on the spot including: equipment failure, audio and video issues, last minute revisions to content (i.e. PowerPoint), support issues from remote locations (i.e. walk venue manager through any technical issues they are experiencing on their end).
  • Assist as needed during techs.
  • Responsible for reading venue reports and festival schedules. - Follow-up on applicable details/notes and communicate information to supervisors and staff as appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings and production meetings.
  • Must be able to comfortably negotiate stairs, ladders, lifts, and catwalks up to 45 feet above ground, as well as working within confined spaces.

Experience

Prior experience working in the audio-visual, sound or video is an asset. The nature of prior experience will be a factor in the length of on-site time required.

Time Commitment

12th Annual Fringe Festival runs July 6 to 23 with the extension week the 25 to 31. Audio-Projection Coordinator begins part-time in April and full-time is required during load in (July 1 to 6) and load out July 31 to August 2.

LIGHTING COORDINATOR

The Lighting Coordinator assists the Production Manager on all aspects of lighting operation and the coordination of technical elements as they relate to electrics of the Capital Fringe Festival. The position includes supervision of lighting personnel, installation, focus, programming and maintenance of lighting plots and the lighting equipment. This position reports to the Production Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Master Electrician for all events and venues. Prep and maintain equipment necessary to tech and run indoor and outdoor venues.
  • Assist with the training and supervision of electrics staff and over hire in the preparation, load-in, maintenance, and strike of festival venues.
  • Update light plots as needed, instrument and channel hookups, and other related Vectorworks and Lightwright documentation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate festival inventories of all lighting equipment and consumables.
  • Maintain lighting equipment.
  • Assist as needed during techs.
  • Responsible for reading venue reports and festival schedules. - Follow-up on applicable details/notes and communicate information to supervisors and staff as appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings and production meetings.
  • Working knowledge of theatrical rigging systems and common safety practices.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand on feet for long time periods.
  • Must be able to comfortably negotiate stairs, ladders, lifts, and catwalks up to 45 feet above ground, as well as working within confined spaces.
  • Working knowledge of Vectorworks and Lightwright.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance of moving light equipment and conventional instrument repair.
  • Ability to lead load-in, focus, work and strike calls as directed by the Lighting Supervisor.

BUILD LOAD IN/OUT CREW

Crew with experience in theatrical electrics, audio systems, carpentry, painting or other production skills are needed to prepare and install the Fringe Festival’s indoor theatrical venues and the outdoor Baldacchino Tent site.

Capital Fringe is looking for build and load-in crew for the 12th Annual Capital Fringe Festival, July 6 to 31, 2017. Crew with experience in theatrical electrics, audio systems, carpentry, painting or other production skills are needed to prepare and install the Fringe Festival’s indoor theatrical venues and the outdoor Baldacchino Tent site.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting floorplans / Draftings
  • Building seating platforms, decks and other projects as needed
  • Hanging, circuiting and focusing theatrical lighting equipment as needed
  • Setting up audio equipment as needed
  • Load in and load out of all festival venues Any other reasonable tasks required in the preparation, construction, and installation of Capital Fringe venues.

Qualifications

  • Carpentry skills
  • Experience with Theatrical lighting and sound equipment;
  • Be physically fit and not afraid of getting dirty and sweating
  • Knowledge of construction, shop safety, and project management
  • Grace and a sense of humor under pressure

Time Commitment

Crew members will be scheduled according to availability. In addition to prep work in the Fringe scene shop, Capital Fringe seeks crew during the following periods: June 20 to June 26 – Baldacchino Tent build. June 30 to July 5 Festival indoor venues load-in. July 31 to August 6 - Festival indoor and outdoor venues strike.

Compensation

$15 to $17 per hour commensurate with experience.

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dependable team player to fill the full-time summer contract position of Box Office Manager.

In conjunction with the Box Office Assistant and staff, the Box Office Manager is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of the Capital Fringe Festival Box Office. The Box Office Manager is responsible for hiring their team. This position reports to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the inputting of all festival data into the ticketing software.
  • Lead on the design and production of all festival passes and box office signs.
  • Compose and/or maintain all box office information and documents accordingly.
  • Lead with financial reconciliations and cash management.
  • Lead daily operations of the Fringe Festival venue box offices.
  • Liaise with Production regarding box office issues.
  • Lead in hiring, training, scheduling & supervising box office staff.
  • Lead with training and continuously collaborate with box office staff.
  • Communicate effectively and provide quality service to patrons, sponsors & funders.

12th Annual Fringe Festival runs July 6 to 23 with an extension week 25 to 31. Assistant Box Office Manager starts part time in mid-June and full-time throughout the festival. Festival Box Office hours range from 10am to 11pm.

VENUE MANAGERS

Fringe Festival Venue Managers act as the primary point of contact of Capital Fringe to the Fringe Run Venue contacts, artists, volunteers and patrons of their particular venue. The Venue Manager will be in place to oversee and assist their assigned artists and work with the venue and Fringe production staff. This position reports to the Program Manager.

We need those applying to have a positive attitude, ability to problem solve, excellent communication skills, and stay cool and happy under pressure. The Venue Manager primarily serves as house manager, but should have a basic understanding of technical equipment, with the ability to troubleshoot in the event of equipment failure. Venue Managers ensure a smooth, and pleasant, experience for both Fringe artists and audiences alike.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with assigned venue contact person during the Festival to ensure proper use of the space.
  • Oversee fast-paced, repertory performance schedule for multiple productions.
  • Assist and supervise Fringe artists during performances and technical rehearsals.
  • Work with Box Office Staff to ensure good communication with patrons, and to get shows started on time.
  • Handle technical problems or needs of artists with the assistance of production staff.
  • Assist with load-in and load-out of all venues.

Qualifications

  • An appreciation and passion for the arts and artists is an asset.
  • Knowledge of a theatre environment, specifically the Fringe Festival is an asset.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work independently.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role; event front of house or box office a plus.
  • Ability to manage large crowds on a tight schedule.
  • Creative minded with the ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances in a bustling festival environment.
  • Possess excellent customer service, problem solving and troubleshooting skills - positive attitude.
  • Working weekends and evenings will be required.
