Capital Fringe is seeking up to 12 motivated individuals to serve as Fringe Festival Venue Managers for the 2019 Capital Fringe Festival. The Venue Manager acts as the primary point of contact of Capital Fringe to the Fringe Run Venue contacts, artists, volunteers and patrons of their particular venue. This position reports to the Festival Producer.

Looking for problem solvers, excellent communication skills, and stay cool and happy under pressure. The Venue Manager primarily serves as house manager but should have a basic understanding of technical equipment, with the ability to troubleshoot in the event of equipment failure. Venue Managers ensure a smooth, and pleasant, experience for both Fringe artists and audiences alike.


  • Work directly with assigned venue contact person during the Festival to ensure proper use of the space
  • Oversee fast-paced, repertory performance schedule for multiple productions
  • Assist and supervise Fringe artists during performances and technical rehearsals
  • Work with Box Office Staff to ensure good communication with patrons, and to get shows started on time
  • Handle technical problems or needs of artists with the assistance of production staff
  • Oversee cleanliness of all Venue spaces used by Capital Fringe, assuring a positive environment for artists, patrons and Venue staff
  • Communicate with Fringe staff in timely and appropriate manner all information about performances and venue needs
  • Assist with load-in and load-out of all venues
  • Communicate with Fringe Staff feedback on artists, venues and audience experiences for use in future Fringe Festival planning


  • An appreciation and passion for the arts and artists is an asset
  • Knowledge of a theatre environment, specifically the Capital Fringe Festival, is an asset
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work independently
  • Experience in a customer-facing role; event front of house or box office a plus
  • Ability to manage large crowds on a tight schedule
  • Creative minded with the ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances in a bustling festival environment
  • Possess excellent customer service, problem solving and troubleshooting skills - positive attitude
  • Working weekends and evenings will be required
  • Some physical work required


The Venue Manager is a seasonal contract position from July 1 – August 2, 2019. The specific schedule is based on the performance calendar of each venue and will be discussed during the hiring process. There may be trainings that take place in late June, depending on availability. Salary is commensurate with experience and paid biweekly.


The 14th Annual Capital Fringe Festival, July 9-28 in SW DC! 90 productions on 11 stages at six different venues. Approximately 450 performances Tuesdays - Sundays.
