Production Over-Hire

Capital Fringe is looking for build, production and Load-in/Load-out crew for the 14th Annual Capital Fringe Festival, July 9-28, 2019. We are seeking crew with experience in theatrical electrics, audio systems, projection, carpentry, painting or other production skills. Over-Hire production staff are needed to prepare and install the Fringe Festival’s indoor theatrical venues, art installation and other Festival spaces.


  • Interpreting floorplans/Drafting
  • Building seating platforms, decks and other projects as needed
  • Hanging, circuiting and focusing theatrical lighting equipment as needed
  • Setting up audio/projection equipment as needed
  • Efficient Load in and load out of all festival venues
  • Any other reasonable tasks required in the preparation, construction, and installation of Capital Fringe venues.


  • Fringe is looking for crew with experience in any of the following areas: o Carpentry skills (moderate to professional) o Experience with Theatrical lighting/electrics equipment (moderate to professional) o Experience with projection and sound equipment (moderate to professional)
  • Be physically fit and not afraid of getting dirty and sweating
  • Knowledge of construction, shop safety, and project management
  • Grace and a sense of humor under pressure
  • Must be able to comfortably negotiate stairs, ladders, lifts, and catwalks up to 45 feet above ground, as well as working within confined spaces
  • Must be able to physical lift 40 pounds


Crew members will be scheduled according to availability and their skill set/experience level. Crew calls will be focused in the following times:

  • May/June (Pre-festival builds)
  • Late June/early July (Theatre Tent build)
  • June 30 – July 11 (Venue Load-ins)
  • July 21, July 28 – Aug 2 (Venue Strikes/Load-out)

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Over-Hire staff are paid an hourly wage $15-18 and checks are cut bi-weekly.


The Capital Fringe Festival takes place July 9 – 28, 2019 in the SW Waterfront Metro neighborhood of DC. Between 80 - 100 productions are programmed on 9 - 12 stages at seven different venues in the area. Approximately 500 performances take place on Tuesdays - Sundays for the three-weeks of the Fringe Festival.
