Washington, DC based drummer and composer Abinnet Berhanu is an up-and-coming artist that is developing a reputation for being an open, versatile, intense, emotional musician.
As a bandleader and composer in his group Hebret Musica, Abinnet has focused on creating music inspired by the sounds and experiences of his upbringing in an Ethiopian household.
Since moving to DC after studying Jazz Performance and Economics while living in Richmond, VA, Abinnet has become a highly visible and in-demand drummer in the city’s vibrant straight-ahead jazz scene. He has performed in many of DC’s famed jazz venues including Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, and Twins Jazz Club.
He has also performed alongside Steve Wilson, Cyrus Chestnut, John D'Earth, Justin Kauflin, Allyn Johnson, Marcus Tenney, Vincent Chauncey, and Russell Wilson.
