Interview with
a Fringe Artist
Each month we interview one Fringe Artist from our Festival. We want to give you a picture (whether you're an artist or patron) as to what it takes to be a self-producing artist and to connect you to our Fringe community of artists.
February's Fringe Artist is Jessica Solomon. Jessica is a Founding Member of the Artist Collective The Saartjie Project. The Saartjie Project was conceptualized by Jessica after she was re-introduced to Saartjie Baartman at a Sister Circle. Feeling like some of her present-day experiences as a black/women had a newfound historical context, Jessica began to cultivate a community space where art that explores race, gender, power and its many tangents could be incubated, nurtured and produced. At the 2009 Fringe Festival, The Saartjie Project produced Deconstructing the Myth of the Booty.
